Smoke and CO Detector
It’s a well-established fact that smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors save lives. Everyone knows that smoke rises, yet few people realize that carbon monoxide does too. As a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas, carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous, since only a detection device can identify it. In recent years, the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) has made it mandatory for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to be installed in all new homes. It is also now a requirement that homes must be wired to allow all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to be interconnected. As a result, if any detector is activated, all the other devices will also sound their alerts. Detectors must also be installed on every floor and be located at a minimum distance from any bedrooms. This ensures that every individual will always be able to hear the alarm, even if they are sleeping when it is initially activated.
At Big Hill Electrical, we are fully committed to customer safety and install only the highest quality detectors. These speak directly to the customer, in English or French, informing them if the alarm is sounding for either a fire or for dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide. Studies have indicated that children in particular are more likely to respond to voice-equipped alarms than to traditional models. Our smoke detectors are equipped with a nine volt battery as a back up in the event of a power outage, ensuring that our customers are protected at all times. The detector will also alert you when the battery is low and in need of replacement. Smoke detectors do eventually wear out, so should be replaced every ten years.
Big Hill Electrical also provides commercial services for fire alarm installations and maintenance.
